OK! read this really quickly before clicking- (ok open in a new tab and read while you’re waiting for it to load, whatever)
This isn’t really a “how to draw a portrait in charcoal tutorial,” this is just how I drew this particular one. Just keep in mind that there are dozens of ways of creating a portrait. ;) Also sorry about most of the crappy photos =p
I just hope this is a bit helpful for some of you.

This is an awesome tutorial but I have a question for you, I have such a tough time getting a really nice, sharp point on my charcoal pencils, any suggestions?

I got a new charcoal set [yay!] and I'm going to try draw a picture of a famous figure. If you see a picture uploaded of a charcoal person on my profile, it'll most likely be your method. I'll link it if I ever finish xD Annyway this was pretty helpful :D

Stunning tutorial!

The only thing rather unclear to me is how you really get into the eyes with all that detail..it's astounding!

Wonderful job.

and hey now, you're JUST AS GOOD as those other artists! Don't be so hard on yourself!

you should use a special spray (dont remember wat it's called XDD) that keeps the charcoal on the paper (available at hobby lobby and micheals)
